Anatomy of an all-sorts website

Most clients don’t know what they want until they see it in front of their eyes, which is fine by me. My development process allows you to hone the scope (and resulting costs) of your project over 3 distinct phases:

  1. Content Acquisition
  2. Paper Prototype
  3. Working Prototype

After discussing your requirements I’ll prepare a proposal which outlines the project scope and some costing options. When you’re ready to go, you pay 50% of the agreed budget, and I get to work:

Content Acquisition

I grab copies of your content, verify that it is all in order, and start clarifying and distilling your requirements until we both have a solid handle on the project. I introduce you to concepts in web design like Responsive Design, Dynamic Viewports and image proportioning, and how they influence the display of your content.

Paper Prototype

We thrash out the design on paper: I supply diagrams explaining how the website will look and function. I take your feedback on-board an move onto the next phase:

Working Prototype

You can visit the design in your web-browser as it develops. We tweak it until we’re happy. If your budget is tight, I set things up so you enter all your content yourself, using the content manager (else I do it all for you).

When the website is ready, we ‘throw the switch’ and it goes live to the public (and you pay the remainder of my fee ;-).

Rest assured: I stick to our agreed budget and schedule. No hidden costs. No small print.
