So, what do we want from our site dimensional survey?

  • Our key concern is accurately staking out points A, B, C , D and E. We want the house as high up the slope as possible…
  • Our construction is effectively a platform bearing on supports 1, 2, 3 and 4. We’ll be wanting some sort of datum or set-out-point for this area so that we can accurately locate the supports relative to each-other and boundaries AE and BC. Suggestions, please!
Our remaining areas of interest (f to *) are not as crucial in terms of centimetre accuracy, but are required for “confident design around said item”. The following areas are design issues for me at the moment. How accurately can we position the following items:
  • Point f – I’m really only interested in the roof level of this building.
  • Points g, h and i : I’ll be designing the view fins of the building so that the green-brick house is as obscured as possible. Level of accuracy required: hopefully within 500mm?
  • Trees j and k are the only really large ones on the site that we’ll be able to keep. I plan on running the pedestrian footbridge through here, and so i need the trees to a metre or so. A key determinant of the footbridge is exactly how points C, D and E relate to the path/stairway along the boundary. I’m hoping that the footbridge will be able to neatly land at a “reasonable spot” along the path. I need the path plotted to reasonable accuracy…
  • Point l (L) is where a builder’s hut / crane drop-off point might site. It’d be nice to get an idea of the height from the road of this platform.
  • Point * is the proposed space for the car parking deck on the road reserve. I’ll need basic dimensions of this for my submission to council.

We’re happy to get parts of the site cleared sooner rather than later if this will help the survey. Michael, given what we want from the dimensions how would you prefer to deal with it?
