After a few months investigation the writing is on the wall: if we want a good builder, the soonest we can get the thing done is the latter half of next year. New Zealand’s construction industry has been booming, and good builders are booked up.
It’s taken a while to sink in – now that the penny has dropped, we’ve done the stop-and-reassess thing with some very positive results:
- we get to move out of our current accommodation (which we have grown to despise for the cheap, un-insulated box that it is – great views of Wellington and our site notwithstanding)
- we get to live in a great place for the next year or so (already found, lease signed, we move in a month, can’t wait)
- pressure is off the “get that damn design finished – we need to move in” cooker
- more time to dedicate to the original intentions of this ‘blog.
I’m going to change the structure of the ‘blog – its too presentation-driven. I want to upload whatever / however, comment on whatever / whenever. I need to stay away from this “only post when its ready” thing – drawings’ll never be ready. There’ll always be a better design lurking around the corner – that is an inevitable result of the design process. I want to be able to plot my way through the decisions I make with the design, and so
the new regime will not be televised
