And then promote yourself some more.
Self-promotion is a tough ask for the non-Facebook among us, but there is no way around it. You need to get your take on things publicised far and wide, else how will they find you?
One or more of these approaches can be used to drive the right people to your website:
- Schmooze the old-fashioned way, face to face.
- Get your work published on a popular architectural zine.
- Build a following on social networks.
- Post authoritative articles on your website—everything from the exigencies of planning approval with local councils, to your thoughts about sustainable construction.
- Be mentioned: Google’s algorithms are a popularity contest.
I’m lucky enough to source most of my work from client referrals, but then I’ve been doing this stuff for ages.
